Catalog redesign is more than a visual refresh
Long-running catalogs accumulate local fixes. One chapter follows the original grid, another uses a newer layout, identical attributes have different labels, and important products sit inside a structure that reflects the range from several years ago. Changing fonts and the cover does not resolve those operational problems.
We treat redesign as the rebuilding of a working sales and product-communication tool. The audit identifies what is useful, where readers lose the logic of selection, which questions still require a sales call, and which production problems make every update slow. This creates an evidence-based redesign scope instead of the vague request to make the catalog look more modern.
What can be preserved
Strong copy, photography, drawings, tables, and navigation patterns do not need to be discarded because the document is old. We separate valuable content from outdated presentation, normalize it, and move it into the new system.
When the brand identity remains current, the redesign may be evolutionary: stronger typography, a clearer grid, consistent product cards, and better navigation. After a rebrand or major portfolio change, the work may extend to the cover, color system, image treatment, and the hierarchy of product arguments.
A controlled process for large catalogs
We first approve the content map and representative templates: family overview, product page, comparison table, technical page, and appendix. One real section is then migrated to test the system against actual content. Only after approval do we scale the solution across the remaining page count.
This prevents corrections from repeating across hundreds of pages. Product-data questions, missing images, and structural conflicts appear while the system can still be adjusted efficiently.
Typical deliverables
- current content architecture without historical duplicates and obsolete chapters;
- a consistent design system for product pages, tables, diagrams, and imagery;
- printer-ready files matched to the selected production specification;
- a lightweight digital PDF with bookmarks and internal navigation;
- organized working files that make the next catalog update easier to manage.
